Regular mouth openings are about 2 3/8" across and wide mouth about 3". Measure the inside of the jar mouth.

Rubber rings vs. metal canning rings
"Canning rings" usually means the metal screw bands that hold a flat lid on a modern mason jar. Rubber jar rings are the soft seals used under glass lids, bail-wire lids and Tattler lids. If your jar has a glass or plastic lid, you need a rubber ring. If it has a flat metal lid with red or gray compound on the underside, you don't.
How to use rubber jar rings
- Check each ring. It should be soft, flat and free of nicks or cracks.
- Wash the rings in warm soapy water and rinse. Keep them warm until you use them.
- Seat the ring on the lid (or on the jar shoulder for bail jars), then close the lid as your jar or lid maker directs.
- Follow a tested recipe and processing time for your food.

What are rubber canning jar rings used for?
Rubber rings (also called jar rubbers, jar seals or jar gaskets) make the seal between a glass or reusable lid and the jar. They are used on older-style glass-lid jars, bail-wire (lightning) jars and Tattler reusable lids.
Are canning rings the same as rubber jar rings?
Not always. Many people say "canning rings" for the metal screw bands on modern mason jars. The rubber rings on this page are the seals used under glass lids and Tattler lids. If you need metal bands, see canning jar lids and bands.
How do I know what size rubber ring I need?
Match the jar mouth. Regular mouth jars have an opening of about 2 3/8 in. and take regular rings. Wide mouth jars have an opening of about 3 in. and take wide mouth rings. For Tattler lids, buy Tattler rings in the same mouth size.
Can rubber jar rings be reused?
Tattler rubber rings are made to be reused if they are not cut, stretched or brittle. Inspect every ring before each use and replace any that are cracked or out of shape.
Do you sell replacement seals for bail (lightning) jars?
Yes. Our rubber rings fit many older bail-wire and glass-lid jars. Measure your jar's mouth and compare it with the ring size, or call us and we will help you match it.
